First of all I want to give a big thank you to all of our wonderful fans who sent us photos of their Halloween costume for our “Show Us Your Costume” contest. Although there were lot of submissions, you the customers picked the top six best.

Now on to our placement…

With a little under half of all votes from our reader poll, Amy Thomas comes in first place for her Sock Monkey costume. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Sock Monkey, it’s actually a classic toy that first sprung up around 1900 and has endured to modern-day.

With over a hundred years of history, there is a very distinct and iconic look to the Sock Monkey and Amy said she only wanted to dress up as this toy if it could be done really well.

“I looked around online and couldn’t find any that I liked,” Amy said, adding that her mother has always been very crafty and came up with a plan to put the costume into action.  We didn’t have a pattern, we just started knitting.”

Both Amy and her mother put in close to 30 hours of labor creating the Sock Monkey costume in their spare time.

“It turned out exactly like I wanted…pure perfection!,”  Amy said.

Obviously the majority of our voters agree with her, no doubt recognizing all that hard work. It certainly paid off as Amy will get our top prize of a $100 MAPCO gift card.

But Amy isn’t the only one who will take home a prize. The top five runner-up entries in our contest listed below will get a $10 MAPCO gift card as well.  (more…)
